There are many different ways to meditate. You can use Holosync or binaural beats to help relax you. You can use mantras or sounds to help you focus or, if you practice Vipassana or Zen you will not use any of these methods.
Meditation can be a hard, long road. I have fallen asleep, thought about random things (like setting up my classroom and getting revenge) and just not settled down into a meditative state. Luckily I have found a method that works for me.
